Doretha Barron, 57, of Ruckersville, Virginia departed this life Monday, April 17, 2006, at her residence.
She was born October 31, 1948, at the University of Virginia Medical Center, daughter of Robert Eddins Jr. of Merimack, Massachusetts and Geneva L. Brooks of Waynesboro, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Marcellees Eddins III.
Doretha "Dee" to some and "Momma Dee" by numerous others, graduated from Waynesboro High School after attending 11 years at Rosenwald School where she was homecoming queen, head majorette, and lettered in basketball for four years and a cheerleader for two years. She graduated Salutatorian. Dee enjoyed a full life being the 1st African American operator at the Clifton Forge Telephone Company in 1966 until 1967; later transferring to Massachusetts to work at the New England Telephone Company. She went on to pursue various other careers including flight attendant, claim administrator, data entry supervisor/office manager at Microage computer store, meeting planner/ travel coordinator at Charlottesville Financial Analyst company. Dee had great love for her final position which was at University of Virginia Athletic Office where she was office manager/ executive secretary.
In addition to her parents, Robert Eddins Jr. and Geneva Eddins, she is survived by two daughters, Jeanelle N. Barron and Deidra D. Barron Maye.; five grandsons, Martez Dionte Foster, Andre T. Barron, Austyn R. Mayes, Jayden E. Mayes and Curtis Mill.; one granddaughter, Jasmine Gray; a stepmother, Ferbynell T. Eddins; one brother, Earl A Eddins of Waynesboro, Virginia; two sisters, Gloria J. Harris of Boston, Massachusetts and Shakira Palmer of Yorktown, Pennsylvania; two former husbands, William T. Barron, and Porter S. White; one best friend and sister in Christ, Thelma Byers, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Monday, April 24, 2006, at Transformation Ministries First Baptist Church, 632 West Main Street with the Rev. Lynn W. Beanum officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
