Gustaf Ed (pronounced like Swede) was Swedish immigrant, who had own construction company called Gustaf Ed Contractors. He was one of the first to use concrete in the Tri-City area. In 1905 he was first user of reinforced concrete.

Notable construction - erected the plow and vehicle factory buildings with the exception of one building. He build main building of the Velie carriage factory. He built the Davenport Bag and Paper company, Moline's first public hospital, Augustana College Gymnasium, Davenport fire station, Moline power station. He also build five school buildings and several machine shops, Moline Furniture Factory and Republic Iron and Steel Mill, telephone company building, several churches, Moline YMCA. He build John Deere original residence and built the wall around the Butterworth mansion. He built first 50 houses and 25 miles of sidewalks in East Moline. He also built the Riverside Cemetery gates.

He and Helena had 9 children.
