STANTON - Verna Elizabeth Alderin, 86, Stanton, died July 20, 2002, at the Hazen hospital. Services will be held at 9 a.m. MDT Wednesday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Stanton, with the Rev. Marv Mutzenberger officiating. Burial will be in Deapolis Cemetery, rural Stanton.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. MDT today at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.

Verna was born March 28, 1916, at Bismarck to John and Ellen (Anderson) Ecklund. She was raised and educated in rural Washburn. Verna came to the Stanton area, where she worked for Mrs. Ivor Tuhie, then the Lyman Alderin family. At this time she met Einer Alderin.

On Oct. 15, 1938, Verna and Einer were married at the Underwood Parsonage. Together they made their homes in Stanton and Fort Peck, Mont., then settled in to farming on the original Herman Danielson farm where Einer's mother was reared. In 1963, Verna and Einer sold the farm and moved to San Jose, Calif., where their four children lived. Verna spent the next 20 years working as an apartment manager and bookkeeper for 98 units of apartments.

Verna and Einer were faithful attendants of Gloria Day Lutheran Church, San Jose, Calif. She was an active member of the quilting guild of Gloria Day's ELCW. In 1984 Verna and Einer returned and retired back home in the Stanton community, where they enjoyed fellowship at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, and many wonderful friends, in their new retirement home.

Verna is survived by her husband of 64 years, Einer; one daughter, Joan and her husband Lee Suess, California; three sons and their wives, Gerald and Ardena Alderin, Center, Ellsworth and Ginger Alderin, Aromas, Calif., and Bob and Jan Alderin, San Jose, Calif.; one brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Audrey Ecklund, Bismarck; nine grandchildren and their spouses; and 17 great-grandchildren.
