Charles Eckel (Twigs), age 65, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at Toledo Hospital after a long illness surrounded by his family.

Charlie was a graduate of Perrysburg High School and was employed at Hydramatic (Powertrain) for 35 years until his retirement in 1999.

He enjoyed relaxing in his back yard by the pool, traveling (especially to Florida) and spending time with his family and friends.

He also had a special place in his heart for his puppies, Tegan and Isabelle who were his constant companions.

He was a member of the Sylvania Pyramid Masonic Lodge.

Mostly, though, Charlie was a kind, gentle and loving man whose smile, chuckle and jokes will be missed for a long time.

Charlie is survived by the love of his life, his soul mate, Lori. The rest of his surviving family include: mother and father-in-law, Jack and Barbara Stone; sisters-in-law, Roxanne (Charlie) Warr, Jodey (Jeff) MacQueen; brothers-in-law, Noah (Ericka) Stone and John (Jodie) Stone; nieces and nephews, Evelyn Warr-Cummings (Jim), Charlie (Heather) Warr, Anisa, Julianne Warr, Arin, Zach and Spencer MacQueen, Noah and Kiley Stone and Caitlin, Sally and Joe Stone.

Charlie was preceded in death by grandparents-in-law, Joseph and Vallie Stone, Fred and Adaline Richards and mother-in-law, Donna Stone; his father and mother, Harold and Elva; brother, Harold and sister, Evelyn. His sister, Annie Matuszak survives as do his sons, Allen and Mike.

The family wishes to thank the special people at Toledo Hospital Intensive Care Unit for their attention and support during the last difficult week, and especially Janine, his nurse. Special thanks also to Dr. Pipoli and Dr. Jacob.

Visitation for Charlie will be on Friday, August 14 from 3-9 p.m. at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee. Funeral service will be Saturday, August 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Masonic service will be Saturday prior to the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Holland-Springfield Alumni Association.
