Eve Childress, 92, Rugby, died on Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.

Eve was born on March 19, 1919, to Michael and Katherine (Kloetzel) Ebach in Balta. She and her family moved to East Barton Township north of Rugby in Pierce County when she was 8 years old. She went to Spruce Hill School and attended Rugby High School. For two years she worked at the Tuberculosis Sanitarium at San Haven. She then moved to Seattle where she worked as a nanny for a short time. Later she moved to Chicago, where she worked as a bookkeeper in store #1 of the F.W. Woolworth Company. Here she met Neil Baker Childress, whom she married on Aug. 16, 1947, in Chicago. Neil was a variety store manager so they lived in several places including Illinois, Minnesota, New York and Missouri.

They retired in 1978 on a small farm in Oxford, Wis. They returned to North Dakota and Rugby in 1988.

She was a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and active in the Little Flower prayer chain. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, crossword puzzles, cooking and ceramics. She also enjoyed sports of all types, especially if it involved her children or grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Neil Jr. and his wife Maurie of DePere, Wis., and Thomas and his wife, Lynda of Rugby. She also leaves nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her sisters, Mary Ebach and Clara Ebach, both of Rugby, Theresa O'Connell of Chicago, Agnes Tallarico of Pittsburgh and Carol Brown of Larimore also survive her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil, on Jan. 25, 2003; her son, Mike on Oct. 19, 2011; her parents; sisters, Elizabeth Schmidt in 1970 and Magdalene Ebach in 1949; and brothers, Clements in 1949, John in 1980, Matt in 1984, and Alex in 2007.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby. Rev. Thomas Graner will officiate. Glenda Mack will be the organist, Geoffrey and Christina Childress and Galen J. Mack will provide music. Pallbearers will be Geoffrey Childress, James Childress, Matt Childress, Tim Childress, Larry Kraft and Bob Ricciardelli.

Visitation will be today, Sunday, from 3 to 9 p.m. at Niewoehner Funeral Home in Rugby with a Scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday from 8 to 10 a.m. in the funeral home. There will be no reviewal at the church.

Burial will be in the spring at the Little Flower Cemetery in Rugby.
