Clela Antionet Mooney was the youngest and only girl born to George Washington Mooney and Effie Oriel (Mason) Mooney. She had three older brothers: Everett, Floyd, and Lee. The youngest brother was 16 years old when she arrived. Her brothers adored, protected and spoiled her. Clela graduated from Central High School in downtown Houston, which later became the original downtown Post Office.

She attended Sam Houston Teachers College in Huntsville, Texas, which later became Sam Houston University. She studied to be a teacher which only required a few months. She taught grades 1-12 for one year in a country school. That was long enough to convince her that teaching was not for her!

She married (Eugene) Ashley Thigpen, and they had one daughter, Clela Yvonne Thigpen. They were later divorced, and she married Vernon Eaves in 1950. They were married until his death in 1993. In 1955 they moved to West University Place where they remained until after Vernon's death. They were long time members of Bellaire Methodist Church in Houston.

Clela was formally diagnosed with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, in 1995. She sold her home and she became a resident of Clarewood Retirement Community, Houston, Texas. In August, 2001, her daughter Yvonne, moved to Pearland, Texas. Shortly, thereafter, she made the decision to move to Trinity Oaks Retirement Community in Pearland, Texas. She began attending the Episcopal Church with her daughter. As her Alzheimer's disease progressed she moved to the Hampton of Pearland in the secure dementia program, then called "The Arbors". She remained until her death, due to complications of advanced dementia and a fractured hip. She is now with her husband of 40 years, Vernon, and back in the company of her three brothers as well as her mother and father.

Clela is survived by her daughter Yvonne, niece Billie, and lifelong friend Maydell.

Her service was held Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Friendswood, Texas, with The Rev. Jim Nelson officiating with a reception following in Sterling Hall. A private burial was held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
