Betty Jane Eastburn Age 74, of Millcreek, died August 24, 1999 in Christiana Hospital.

Mrs. Eastburn, the former Betty Jane Buker, was a native of Wilmington and grew up in the Prices Run Park area on the East side. She was a graduate of H. Fletcher Brown Vocational High School in January, 1943 and immediately became employed at Dravo Shipyard in the time keeping and accounting departments until the end of WWII. She was part of the original staff of the S&H Green Stamps Store on Kirkwood Hwy in 1960. She went to work for Delaware Trust Co and retired in 1986 after 21 years. She was an active bowler in several leagues including Pleasant Girls and the Forrest League at Pleasant Hill Lanes, Mid-County Senior League at Prices Lanes and Delmarva Travel League. She participated in many tournaments and participated on the team that won the Delaware Seniors Trophy for Mid-County in 1993. Her other interests included playing the organ, writing songs and poetry, and collecting old sheet music.

Her husband, Lawrence, died in 1986. She is survived by 3 children, C. David Hitchens of Middletown; Linda G. Smookler of Bear and Wendy Bonnett of Kennett Square, PA; a brother, Robert Buker of Georgetown; a sister, Nancy A. Crow of Newark; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren.

Services will be 9:45 am Friday, August 27 at the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, with entombment in the adjoining cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 pm Thursday at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, Kirkwood Hwy and Duncan Rd. (Rt. 2 East).
