Nellie Bickel
1917-2006

Nellie Bickel, 88, of Elkhart, formerly of Goshen, died Thursday afternoon, June 1, 2006, at the Elkhart Rehabilitation Center.

She was born July 22, 1917, in Goshen, Indiana, to Nick and Martha (Hoogenboom) Dykstra. On February 29, 1952, she married Forest Bickel, in Goshen. He survives.

A lifetime resident of the area, she was a member of the Fish Lake St. John's Lutheran Church. She worked at Princess Laundry and General Time, both in Goshen.

She is survived by her husband, Forest; a daughter, Joyce A. Elzinga of Grand Rapids, Michigan; two sons, Jon R. Berry of Tucson, Arizona and David W. Van Horn of Corte Madera, California; and two sisters, Cornelia Hamilton of Constantine, Michigan and Ellen Rodean (V.L.) Schrock of Goshen, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Fanna Horvath and Fanny Dykstra.

Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, June 4, 2006 and 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.

An 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 5, 2006, service will be held at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery, Middlebury.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fish Lake St. John's Lutheran Church.
