Mary Francelia (Dutcher) Barney was born on Sunday, 9 Feb 1845 to her parents, Mary Ann (maiden name unknown) and John R. Dutcher in New York state. She is the third known child of her parents. Her nickname by familiars was "Frank" which is a nickname for people named Francis. Her nieces and nephews called her "Aunt Frank."
In the 1850 Federal Census she is found at Norfolk, St. Lawrence Co., NY she is with her parents and siblings and is age 5, enumerated as F. Mary.
Her family moved from St. Lawrence County, New York to Lake County, Illinois in the fall of 1853, when she would have been age 8.
In the 1860 Federal Census, the family is in the town of Benton, Lake Co., IL. She is enumerated as Mary F. and is age 15.
She is married to Eliakim Colonel Barney in Lake Co., IL on 9 May 1863 in Lake Co., IL.
She and her husband and two children move about 1868 to Kansas. In the 1870 Federal Census she is with her husband and children at Sheridan Township, Cherokee County, Kansas. She is age 25 and has 3 living children.
In the 1880 Federal Census she is with her husband and five of her children at Elk Falls Township, Elk Co., KS. She is age 35. Her older sister Josephine Dutcher Cold is living so near she is enumerated just before her.
In the 1900 Federal Census she is with her husband and 3 of her children at Grant Township, Custer Co., Oklahoma Territory. She was born Feb 1845, is age 55, and lists that she is the mother of 13 children with 8 of them still living.
In the 1910 Federal Census she is in Grant Township, Custer Co., Oklahoma with her husband and two of her children. She is age 55.
