Long time Chico resident, Alta Fawntilla Durfee passed away Feb. 14, 2007, here in Chico, she was 79.
Born June 5, 1927, in Bird City, Kan., to William and Sara Jane (Branscom) Garner. The family moved to Colorado in 1936, then to Oregon in 1941. Alta met her husband John Sillas Durfee in Oregon and they married in 1944 in Reno, Nev. Soon after they moved to Chico, Calif., where they raised their family.
Alta earned her nursing degree in 1963 and worked at Enloe Hospital for many years, until a back injury forced her to retire.
Each year, Alta and her family would load up the camping trailer and head to Oregon and Colorado to visit family and friends and to enjoy her favorite Past-time, fishing.
Her husband John preceded in death in 1992.
Alta is survived by four sons; John and wife Alice, Karl and wife Karen, Raymond and wife Janice of Chico, and Lee and wife Dee of Brandon, Miss., and seven grandchildren; John, Julie, Peter, Carrie, Sherrie, Denver, and Wendy, and two great-grandchildren; Tanner, and Grace.
A visitation will be held Tuesday evening, Feb. 20, 2007, from 5-8 P.M. in the Chapel of the Brusie Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, at 1 P.M. at Glen Oaks Memorial Park in Chico. Published in Chico Enterprise-Record on February 16, 2007.
