Carmen A. Durazo was cherished by her beloved friends and family as the queen of laughter and music. Her vivacious spirit filled her home and those around her with warmth, joy and the gift of song. Mrs. Durazo peacefully passed on the afternoon of January 13, 2007. The daughter of José María Arana and Anastacia Perrier, Carmen Durazo was born July 16, 1915 in Magdalena, Sonora.
She was raised in Nogales, Arizona and made Calexico her home in 1951. Mrs. Durazo is reunited in heaven with her husband Alfonso Durazo II, with whom she raised a family of four daughters, a son, 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Along with friends and family, Carmen Durazo participated in charitable efforts in the Imperial and Mexicali Valleys, also serving as the President of Club Ilitia of Mexicali.
She joins her previously departed grandchildren, Casey Dessert and Alfonso Durazo IV, in heaven.
She is survived by daughter, Carmen Durazo of Calexico; son, Alfonso Durazo III and daughter- in-law, Alma Durazo of Calexico; daughter, Annabelle Dessert of El Centro, and son-in-law, Charles Dessert; daughter, Alba Garcia of Vista and son-in-law, David Garcia; daughter, Sylvia Benning of La Mesa and son-in-law, Darrell Benning; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 18th at 7 to 9pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Calexico. Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral mass will commence at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Calexico on Friday, January 19. Burial will immediately follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Calexico.
