Glenn Edward Dunphy, 83, of rural White Hall, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born Jan. 7, 1925, at White Hall, son of Clyde Hubbard and Florence Marshall Dunphy Hubbard. He married Ella L. Vinyard on Feb. 14, 1948, at the White Hall Presbyterian Church, and she survives.

Also surviving is a daughter, Glennda J. (husband, David) Dokka of Jacksonville; two sons, Clyde E. (wife, Catherine) Dunphy of Pleasant Plains and Brenn A. (wife, Bobett) Dunphy of rural White Hall; four grandchildren, Erik and Ryan Dokka and Bethany and Brennan Dunphy; and a great-granddaughter, Ella Sue Wainman. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Cook Winkley and Mary Jean Dunphy.

Mr. Dunphy was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 594th Ambulance Co. in the European Theater. The men from this company have held reunions every year for 61 years. He farmed in the Walkerville area all his life, the last 28 years with his son, Brenn. He was the A.S.C.S District Director at the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 27 years, retiring in 1985. He was a charter member and one of the organizers of the White Hall V.F.W. Post 7684, and was a member of the White Hall American Legion Post 70. He attended the White Hall First Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m Saturday, Dec.27, 2008 at Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in White Hall, with burial at White Hall Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2008 at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Helping Hands Organization of White Hall, or the North Greene Food Pantry.
