Mary Dunn Bennett, 82, of Stonewall peacefully passed away surrounded by her family Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.

Affectionately known to those that loved her as “Mema” she will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Max Bennett; one brother, John Dunn; and two sisters, June Scott and Margaret Horton.

She is survived by her daughter, Maxine Banks and husband, Charles, of the home; one son, Michael Bennett of New Bern; daughter-in-law, Lupe Bennett of Stonewall; sister, Bonnie May of Nashville, NC; three grandchildren, Willie Banks and fiancée, Crystal Baker, Stephanie Henries and husband, Michael, and Aaron Bennett, all of Stonewall; two step-grandchildren, Richie and James; two great-grandchildren, Tanner and Tucker Banks; and one step-great-granddaughter, Nia. Mema is also survived by several nieces and nephews and special “great-grandchildren”, Mariah Meador, and Hunter and Emma Baker.

Mema was a hard worker, growing up working with her father at the family owned sawmill, then later in life working at Hudson’s Mfg. She and Max loved to travel, always spending time together. She enjoyed having daily lunches with her friends at Charlie’s Restaurant and quilting with The Stonewall Quilters. She was a member of Stonewall United Methodist Church. Her greatest love though was her family, to have everyone together if only for a short time, made her the happiest.

Her memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 9th at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carol Grantham officiating. Inurnment will be in Sandhill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to Stonewall United Methodist Church, PO Box 183, Stonewall, NC 28583 or one’s favorite charity.
