CORAPEAKE - Elizabeth Dunn Barnes, 80, a native of Roanoke, Va., died December 6, 2005, in Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk. Mrs. Barnes after graduating in 1947 from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Va., she accepted a position with the Franklin, Va. city school system teaching music. A member of Parker’s United Methodist Church, she had served as the organist for more than 50 years and was president of its United Methodist Women. Survivors include her husband, Thomas Byrum Barnes; a daughter, Barbara B. Umphlett of Corapeake; and a grandson. A funeral was conducted Friday in Parker’s United Methodist Church by the Rev. Mike Askew and the Rev. Joe Cockrell. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, was in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to Parker’s United Methodist Church or to one’s favorite charity.
