Alice Rigby Dunn, 91, of Provo, passed away of causes incident to age on Thursday, July 2, 2009.

She was born on October 15, 1917 in Dayton, Idaho to Elmer Clarke Rigby and LaRu Carson Rigby.

Alice grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho from the age of two through high school. She was the middle child of three born to Elmer and LaRu, and the only daughter.

She had vivid memories of roller skating to school, being careful not to fall and tear a hole in the knee of her gartered stockings. She talked of coal being dumped through the coal chute into the basement to heat the house during the cold Idaho winters, and the children who followed the ice man carrying great blocks of ice to keep food cold in the ice box in uncomfortably hot summers- such were her early years.

She lived through the Depression, saving every bit of string, and World War II with the rationing of goods we take for granted. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Home Economics from the University of Idaho, sewed her own clothing, bottled fruits and vegetables, and taught others the fine art that homemaking was in the 40's and 50's.

She married Stuart Eugene Dunn on August 29, 1948 in Boise, Idaho; later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they raised three children; Shelley Jean (Art Chaves), Kevin Stuart (Janell), and Scott Crandell.

She joined BYU's Housing staff, first as the consultant in the sewing center, and later retired as Manager of Heritage Halls. One of Mother's great joys in life was her garden, whether the rose bushes that she knew by name and nurtured tirelessly, or the vegetable garden that she planted without fail through her 90th year.

Throughout her life she exhibited a curiosity in everyone and everything that kept her young at heart. As she aged her sweet and gentle nature became more pronounced, grace and dignity marking her every move. Her beautiful smile warmed us throughout her last days and will be missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, older brother, Elmer C. Rigby, and sweetheart Stuart, whom we know have joyously greeted her in her new estate. She is survived by two brothers, George Clarke, and Odell Franklin, her children, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Beautiful Alice, you've made our lives brighter; we will carry on your light.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Oak Hills First Ward Chapel, 1038 North 1200 East, Provo, Utah. Friends and family may call from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the Church.
Interment at East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, Provo, Utah.
