Mrs. Jesse L. Mitcham, 72, passed away at 1 a.m. Friday in her home at Murchison. Although she had been in ill health for the last year, her death came unexpectedly.
Final rites were held Monday morning at 10 o'clock from the Methodist Church in Murchison, with burial in the Athens City Cemetery.
Officiating ministers were Rev. O.W. Hooper and Rev. Christenson.
Pallbearers were Raymond Robbins, Shelby Robbins, Forrest Robbins, Clyde Robbins, Glenn McDonald and S.R. Hawkins.
Mrs. Mitcham, the former Miss Georgie Dunklin, was born in Smith County on November 16, 1878, and was brought to LaRue two years later by her family. She lived the rest of her life in Henderson County, the last 39 years in Murchison. She was married to Jesse Mitcham in Athens in the year 1898.
She had been a member of the Methodist Church for 41 years, having joined in Baxter. She was a charter member of the Women's Society of the Methodist Church at Murchison.
Survivors include her widower, Jesse Mitcham of Murchison; two sons, R.A. Mitcham of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and J.D. Mitcham of Wichita Falls; three daughters, Miss Merlin Lee Mitcham of Texas City, Mrs. John W. Stevens of Wichita, Kansas, and Miss Jane Mitcham of Baytown; four sisters, Mrs. Hattie Hodge of Pampa, Mrs. Earl Hogan of Memphis, Tennessee, Mrs. Una Pledge of Houston and Mrs. Frank Arps of Little Rock, Arkansas.
Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
