He was the husband of Josephine ((Lazendorfer) Duman

DUMAN – Louis Andrew "Lou," 85, Ebensburg, passed away peacefully April 2, 2009, at home surrounded by his family. Born April 14, 1923, in Chest Springs, the sixth of eight children of James Henry and Annie (Springer) Duman. A World War II Army veteran, having served with the 310th Signal Operation Battalion as a truck driver hauling military personnel and supplies over all types of roads under enemy fire. He served in northern France, Rhineland and central Europe. Upon discharge, he returned home, working as a woodsman and a coal miner for both Eastern Coal & Gas and Bethlehem Mines. As a self-employed carpenter, he built several homes and was a backhoe operator for Barnes & Tucker Co. Lou had a passion for the outdoors, farming, hunting, working with his backhoe, gardening and going to auctions. Together with his wife, Josephine, he enjoyed taking loads of hay to farm auctions and sharing meals out at area restaurants. He was a man of many talents who was quick to offer a helping hand with St. Nicholas Cemetery crew, the annual church picnic and other parish activities. Lou enjoyed a good laugh and was everyone's friend. He frequently reminded us all "it's the simple things in life that count" and "God made us all equal." In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandson, Allen Kline, and brothers and sister, Wilmer "Bill," Raymond, Regis and Alma Duman. Beloved husband to Josephine (Lanzendorfer), with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. Loving father to Roger, married to Kathy (Farabaugh) Duman, Ebensburg; Caroline, wife of Dennis Weber, Ebensburg; Anna Marie, wife of Richard Warner, Carrolltown; Imogene, wife of Thomas Kline, Hastings; and Beatrice, wife of Jeffrey Gould, Cresson. He cherished his time with family, especially his 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by sister, Marie Coyle, New York; and brothers, Leonard Duman, Hastings; and Urban Duman, Ebensburg. He leaves to grieve a large extended family. He was a member of VFW Post 7783, St. Benedict; St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Holy Name Society and was a church usher, and also a member of Blue Goose and Colver sportsmen's clubs. Lou led a remarkable life. He began each day with a cheerful greeting of "Good morning, good morning" and closed each day with a prayer of thanks in hope for another tomorrow. He will be greatly missed but remembered for all the wonderful times and lessons he has shown to us. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Moriconi Funeral Home Inc., Northern Cambria. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Father Job Foote, OSB, celebrant. Committal, church cemetery. Military honors by local veterans organizations.
