WOMAN'S DEATH DUE INDIRECTLY TO STORM

The heavy storm of Monday evening was the indirect cause of the death of Mrs. Frank Alward, 56 years old, 324 West Sandusky Street, shortly before 8 o'clock last night. Mrs Alward was on the way to her home from a visit at the home of her brother, R.B. Dukes, living only a short distance from her residence, when it began to rain.
Thinking to get home before the storm broke in all its force, she started to run. She reached her house in a state of collapse. Medical attention was summoned, but her death occurred a half hour later. It was pronounced due to a clot over the heart brought on by unusual exertion.

Mrs. Alward was born in Blanchard township in 1858 and resided there until 1903, when she moved to Ann Arbor, Mich. She returned to this county in September, 1913, coming to this city when Mr. Alward purchased property.

She is survived by her husband, Frank E. Alward, two sons, Glen, of Battle Creek, Michigan; Oral of Ann Arbor and one daughter, Mrs. Allen Messersmith, Steelton, Pa. Four brothers, Parley and R.B. Dukes, of this city, Miles Dukes of Detroit and Clark Dukes of Blanchard township, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Jackson of Blanchard township, also survive.

Mrs. Alward has been a lifelong member of the M.E. church.
