Mrs. Lois W. Duke, age 91, of Rockmart, GA passed away Thursday, August 22, 2013 in a Rome health care center. She was born in Polk County, GA on April 20, 1922 a daughter of the late Newton Virgil Wheeler and Viola Mary Huff Wheeler. Mrs. Duke had lived most of her life in Polk County where she was a member of the Seney Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husbands Marvin (Bud) Lipham and Hershel (Chick) Smith and by two daughters: Shirley Lumpkin and Glenda Lipham. Mrs. Duke was also preceded in death by five sisters:Ola Haynie, Pluma Robinson, Edna Suddeth, Inez Walker and Ruby Carter and four brothers: Joe Wheeler, Albert Wheeler, James (Bunk) Wheeler and G.W. Wheeler.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane Beatty, Rockmart; a son, Frank Lipham, Rockmart; twelve grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Minister Alvis Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home. The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mrs. Lois W. Duke.
