Steve Nave adds: Just a note: This is my 3rd great grandfather and according to family history passed down word of mouth. Charles Du Foe was a Canadian fur trapper and came into the U.S. with is brother seeking their fortunes. Their surname was "Rocklow" and/or it's name variants, and he changed it to Du Foe and/or it's name variants.

As direct descendants of Mr. DuFoe there are 11 children, 38 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren now living, and in addition there are 4 children, 6 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren dead, making a total of 104 in the three generations who owe their existence to the venerable patriarch who stands at the head of the family. Mr. Du Foe was born August 23, 1817 at Three Rivers, Lower Canada, and moved from there to Illinois in 1838when he was 21 years of age. He was married June 22, 1839atRockford, Ill. to Miss Hanna L.
