Betty L. Duffey

Betty L. (Brooks) Duffey, 75, of Tarentum, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at Alle-Kiski Medical Center, Harrison Township. She was born Feb. 5, 1931, in Brackenridge, to William Sr. and Bessie (Kendall) Brooks, and was raised on Fourth Avenue with her family and a host of friends. She was a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Brackenridge, and a 1948 graduate of Har-Brack High School, Natrona Heights. Betty was married to James H. Duffey for 32 years and, in addition to being a loving and caring homemaker to her children and husband, she worked outside of her home. She provided janitorial services for several medical offices in New Kensington and Natrona Heights. In recent years, she cared for others as a home health aide for the elderly. Betty was a dedicated member of Ken-Ton-Ion Temple #631 of Valley Lodge 294 IBPOE of W, and Fidelity Chapter #29 Order of the Eastern Star PHA, Debra Grand Chapter, Commonwealth of Pa. Betty expressed her love to many through her passion for cooking; and enjoyed spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was looked upon as a mother and friend by her brothers and sisters, and enjoyed sharing love, advice and laughter with all who knew her. Survivors include a son, Earl M. (Kate) Duffey, of Brackenridge; two daughters, Donna (Melvyn) Smith, of New Kensington, and Denise (Grady) Frazier, of South Bend, Ind.; five grandchildren, Chad (Sabena) Duffey, Tracy Smith, Misty Duffey, Desiree and Ashley Frazier; five great-grandchildren, Logan Rose, Corenna Duffey, William, Noah and Noelle Grimage; a brother, Robert "Chet" (Mattie) Brooks, of Lower Burrell; three sisters, Shirley (James) Houser, of Arnold, Odessa (Rev. Edward) Fletcher and Rosetta Bush, both of Pontiac, Mich.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives. She is also survived by her former husband, James H. Duffey. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Kay Duffey, in infancy; three brothers, Henry, Paul and William Brooks Jr.; and two sisters, Elizabeth Allen and Gloria Johnson. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 1150 Fourth Ave., New Kensington, by her pastor, the Rev. Edward C. Carter. (EVERYONE ATTENDING THE SERVICE IS ASKED TO GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHURCH.) Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. Services by Ken-Ton-Ion Temple #631 of Valley Lodge 294 IBPOE of W, and Fidelity Chapter #29 Order of the Eastern Star PHA, Debra Grand Chapter, Commonwealth of Pa., will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
