Andre Dubus, II
Birth: Aug. 11, 1936
Lake Charles
Calcasieu Parish
Louisiana, USA
Death: Feb. 24, 1999
Essex County
Massachusetts, USA

Author. Arguably a better writer than his now more famous son of the same name, he was a writer of short stories and essays. He was a 2-time Guggenheim Fellow and awarded a Macarthur Fellowship in 1988. Among his many works was the highly acclaimed Pulitzer Prize runner-up "Broken Vessels" (1992) and the National Book Critics Circle finalist "Dancing After Hours" (1997). His writing often drew on his experiences, in the blue collar town of Haverhill, including his confinement to a wheelchair after losing a leg in an accident in 1986. (bio by: Dave Goudsward)

I discovered your work many years after your death. My belated thank you for your contribution to literature, for enriching my life with your words, and for encouraging me to continue my own attempts to write.
