Death: Jan. 20, 2003

Bonna Lee died peacefully at Morris Health Care on Monday, January 20, 2003. Friends and family will gather Thursday evening, January 23, 2003, between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Broussard's, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont. Services will be Friday, January 24 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary of First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery where Bonna Lee will be buried next to her brother, Sgt. Burnell DuBois, who died while serving his country in 1943. Bonna Lee was born at Hotel Dieu on October 26, 1930. She was educated in Beaumont's public schools and graduated from Beaumont High on May 29, 1947. She graduated from SMU on June 4, 1951 with a B. S. degree in Education. Bonna Lee returned to Beaumont in 1953. She truly loved her home town and lived here the rest of her life. She served on the Board of Boys' Haven, as a docent at the French House Museum, and was a long time member of the Mary Howell Garden Club. She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church since 1939. She was active in the W.S. C.S. and a charter member of the Quester's class. Bonna Lee was a fine lady, a devoted, caring mother and grandmother and a true friend. Her family was the center of her life. Nothing pleased her more than getting them all together at Singing Sands. She was an avid supporter of the sports in which her menfolk took part. An athlete in her own right, she cherished the week or two at Angelfire, skiing with family and friends. She was also a pretty good 3.0 tennis player. Bonna Lee was a member of Romance Writer's Association. An award winning manuscript of hers was serialized in the October 1985 issue of Good Housekeeping and subsequently published as a romance novel. Our lives were enhanced by her positive attitude and sweet demeanor and will be sorely missed. She is survived by Bill, her husband and soul mate of fifty-two years; and her three sons: Burnell and his wife Joanie and their four children, Katie, Burnie, Ellie and Lucas; Carlton and his wife Kathy and their son Connor; and Scott and his wife Genie and their children Carson and Lilly. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Quester's class, the Thursday Noon Lunch Bunch and her dear friend, Nancy Kelley. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the Barrera family and to Hospice of Texas for their loving care. Those wishing to honor Bonna Lee's memory can make contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, 3195 Calder, Beaumont, Texas 77702, First United Methodist Church for Some Other Place, 701 Calder, Beaumont, Texas 77702 or to the charity of your choice.
