Mrs. Raleigh Drennon Dies Unexpectedly

Mrs. Raleigh E. Drennon, 38, of 561 Moreland avenue, N.E., wife of the councilman from the ninth ward and mother of Raleigh Drennon, Jr., one of Georgia Tech's most famous football players, died Tuesday night at a private hospital.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Harry G. Poole, funeral director.

Mrs. Drennon had been ill for several months but her death came unexpectedly at a late hour Tuesday night. She was well known in Atlanta and leaves a large circle of friends. She was a member of the Druid Hills Baptist church. Before her marriage Mrs. Drennon was Miss Rosalie Laura Chandler.

Surviving her are her husband; two sons, Raleigh E. Jr., and Luther Zion Drennon; a sister, Miss Eva Chandler, of Fitzgerald, Ga.; a brother, C. V. Chandler, and three cousins, Tom and Frank Shackelford and Mrs. Susie Potts, all of Athens, Ga.

Final Services Are Conducted For Mrs. Drennon
Funeral services for Mrs. Raleigh C. Drennon, 38, wife of the councilman from the ninth ward, who died Tuesday night, were held Thursday morning at the Druid Hills Baptist church, Dr. Louis D. Newton officiating. Burial was in West View cemetery, Harry G. Poole, funeral director, in charge.

The young matron's class and the men's Bible Class of the Druid Hills church, of which Mrs. Drennon was a devoted member, served as honorary escorts at the funeral. The following acted as pallbearers: W. J. Zahn, Harry S. Boling, W. S. Richardson, Carey Bone, A. L. Norris, and Mobley Sheppard.

Mrs. Drennon came to Atlanta more than 20 years ago from Athens, where she was educated at the Lucy Cobb Institute. She was the mother of Raleigh Drennon, Jr., Georgia Tech football star.
