David Samuel Lewis Draper, 85, of Bedford, died Friday, January 18, 2008 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born November 9, 1922 to the late Frank Price Draper, Sr. and Mary Lena Smith, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Effie Aldrich, of 48 years, and his two brothers, Sgt. Frank P. Draper, Jr. and Warren Gamiel Draper. David was a member of the Elks National Home, Bedford Moose Lodge, and American Legion Post #16. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball, in New York, and bowling. Also, he was a member of the United States Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II. David is survived by his son, David Warren Draper and his wife, Brenda A., of England; one sister, Verona D. Lipford, of Bedford; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren; a close friend, Ann Holdren, of Bedford; several nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial contributions may be sent to National D-Day Memorial, P. O. Box 77, Bedford, Va. 24523. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2008 at Tharp Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Joe A. Shoop officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
