Additional information provided by Linda Wayman: Herbert Drane, 88, of Arkabutla, MS, formerly of Memphis, retired headmaster of Northwest Academy in Arkabutla and retired teacher for Tech High School after 37 years died Tuesday at Hillhaven Convalescent Center in Raleigh. Burial in Memorial Park. A Marine Corps and Army veteran, he was a member of Arkabutla Baptist Church, past president of the Forest Drive Civic Club and first president of the West Tennessee Sportsman's Association. He was a graduate of Central High School, Memphis State University and was a former member of the Memphis Park Commission. The widower of Sallie Edna Early Drane; he leaves four daughters, Ms. Sallie M. Amburgey of Arkabutla, Mrs. Sammie Herring of Ellendale and Mrs. Edna E. Tatum and Mrs. Linda Sue Carver, both of Memphis; two sons, Herbert W. Drane of Memphis and George G. Drane of Tunica, MS and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
