Leslie Elmer Drake was born near Gosport, Indiana, April 30, 1865, and died at Piedmont, Kansas, January 18, 1943, aged 77 years, 8 months and 18 days. He came with his parents to Kansas in 1878 and lived with the family on the Stephen Drake homestead one mile east of Piedmont.

He was married September 1, 1888, to Sadie Emilison Drake, who died on August 2, 1937.

To this union five children were born; James Frederick of San Franciso, Calif.; Myrtle Emilson Stinebaugh, Chas, Leslie, Francis Elmer, and Hazel Ferrell, all of Lafayette, Indiana.

Four brothers, Frank, Will, Fred, and Chas., and one sister Mrs. Geo. H.Jones, had preceded him in death. One sister, Rosa A., and one brother, James H., of Piedmont, survive.

He had been in ill health for two years, having suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he never recovered. His condition gradually grew worse until relief came with death Monday morning at four o'clcok. He had spent the last fifteen months with his sister and brother where everything that could be done to relieve him. He was congonial and welcomed his friends with a smile. He was patient and uncomplaining and expressed his appreciation to those who cared for him.

Funeral service was held January 20 at Vaughn Funeral Home in Piedmont. Burial was in the Piedmont Cemetery.
