Born Sept. 8, 1922, in Plymouth, she was the daughter of the late John and Katharine Nuber Kopp.
She graduated from Ward P. Davenport High School, Class of 1942.
Almeda was a member of First Evangelical and Reformed Church, Willow Street, Plymouth. She was past president of the Consistory, superintendent of the Sunday School, a teacher and active with Christian Endeavors. She was affiliated with First Primitive Methodist Church, Plymouth, and attended prayer meetings, Bible Study and Missionary Society.
Before retiring, she was employed by American Stores and worked in many of their supermarkets, the last at Gateway Acme as a cashier and assistant bookkeeper. Earlier, she was employed by Pomeroy's and Mack Motor Co.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert I. Downs, in 1995; brothers, Albert and Charles Kopp; and a sister, Myrtle.
Surviving are her children, Ruth Ann Stefanick, Swoyersville; Robert Downs, Forty Fort; Esther and her husband, Dave Osolnick, Luzerne; grandchildren, David and Paul Osolnick; nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family from Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with the Rev. Jack Jones officiating. The interment will be in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas, with the Rev. Jack Jones officiating. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Evangelical and Reformed Church, c/o Charlotte Robak, 307 Main St., Plymouth.
