Isaiah Benjamin Downs was born December 21, 1826 in Bryan County, Georgia the son of Barrett C. Downs and Sarah Hickman Downs, who were "pioneers of Bryan County." He had five siblings and was a carpenter. Isaiah Benjamin Downs (who is probably buried in an unmarked grave at Liberty Chapel Cemetery in Bryan County, Georgia), and his wife Mary Amelia Murrow Pate Downs had ten children: Eugenia Astoria Downs Gill, Emma E. Downs Thompson, Sarah Catherine Elizabeth Downs, Lawson Bascon Downs, Rev. John Barrett Downs, Mary Amantha Downs Bradley, Anna Caroline Downs, Albert Walker Smith Downs, Aloyd Downs, and Elizabeth Downs. Isaiah was the second husband of Mary Amelia Murrow Pate Downs. His two step-children were Edna Josephine Pate Downs and William James Pate. His step-daughter, Edna Josephine Pate Downs, married his younger brother, Emmitt Thomas Downs. Isaiah died at age 40 on February 10, 1867 in Bryan County, Georgia. His ancestry was English. The colonial blacksmith shop and tools on his land later were sold to Henry Ford and moved to Michigan. I hope one of his descendents will add his photo to this site.
