Doris Dowling Allen Levins, 73 (b. 23 Oct 1926), of Nahunta died Thursday (7 Jan 2000) at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross.

She was the daughter of the late Willard Morton "Bob" Dowling and Minnie Mae Harris Dowling. Her first husband was the late Spencer Kelly "Kay" Allen.

A native of Brantley County, she was a charter member of Southside Baptist Church in Nahunta. She was a retired mail carrier for the Nahunta Post Office, serving from 1965-1995. She served on the Board of Directors for the Southeast Georgia Regional Development Center from 1982-1989, and from 1998 to present. She also served on the Board of Directors of the City of Nahunta Housing Authority Board and served on the Nahunta City Council for two terms.

Surviving are her husband, James Levins of Nahunta; three daughters, Faye Allen Farabee of Brunswick, Barbara Steed of Hortense, and Kaye Thomas of Nahunta; a brother, Glenwood Dowling of Nahunta; six step-children, nine grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren (line omitted) grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family received friends at the Chambless Funeral Home in Nahunta. Memorial contributions may be made to the Southside Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 1063, Nahunta, GA 31553.

Pallbearers were Emory Allen, Guy Steed, Spencer Steed, Matthew Farabee, Kevin Allen, Jesse Allen, Hymerick Thomas and Jack Dowling.

An honorary escort composed of members of the Board of Directors of the Southeast Georgia Regional Development Center, the City of Nahunta Housing Authority Board, and the U.S. Postal Service Retiree's Auxiliary were asked to gather at the church at 1:30 p.m.

Songs, "Precious Memories," sung by Janet, Jennifer, and Julie, "Beulah Land" sung by Jack Farabee, and "Amazing Grace," sung by church choir.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Southside Baptist Church with the Revs. Russ Graham and Bobby Tatum officiating.

Burial followed in the New Hope Cemetery in Hickox.
