Charles Dovel, aged about twenty-two years, was drowned in the Shenandoah river, eighteen miles south of Luray, Va. Dovel's body has not been found.

Charles Dovel who was drowned on February 23, 1914 by the capsizing of a boat while crossing the Shenandoah River near Grove Hill was found by Isaac N. Louderback, at a point on the River 3 miles by the stream below the scene of the drowning and about one mile below on a straight line. He was the son of Clinton Dovel. Interment near the young man's home in Rockingham Co. several miles from Shenandoah. He was 22 yrs. old and was married on Christmas Day only a few months before he drowned, to a Miss Hensley.
