Florence Douthit Brackett, 82, of Cisco, Ga., passed away Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at SkyRidge Medical Center in Cleveland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Ova Douthit; brother, L.M. Douthit; sister and husband, Phyllis and Bill Campbell; and sister and husband, Maxine and Roy Kersey.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, John Roy Brackett; special grandchildren, Jack Maxfield Stafford and Audrey Rose Stafford; niece, Lisa Kersey Stafford and husband, John, all of Cisco; nieces: Pamela Brackett Ownby and husband, Tom, and Teresa Brackett Suttles and husband, Steve, of Cleveland; nephew, Harold Brackett and wife, Billie, of Old Fort and Jerry Ellis and wife, Susan, of Chatsworth; and several other nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Cisco Baptist Church for 69 years where she served as church treasurer for 15 years and Sunday school teacher for several years. She was a member of the Ocoee Chapter No. 420 of the Eastern Star. After more than 40 years of service, she retired from Hardwick Clothing in Cleveland.

She was very dedicated to her community serving as historian and preservationist for local buildings and cemeteries. Her archives were thorough and quite extensive. She was also instrumental in establishing an annual reunion for alumni of the historic two-room Cisco school and worked tirelessly to accumulate funds for the upkeep of the school as well as other public structures.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at Cisco Baptist Church.

The visitation will be today, Nov. 7 from 4:30 to 9 p.m.

Tom Ownby, Steven Suttles, Jerry Ellis, Harold Brackett, David Kenemer and Bernard Kenemer will serve as pallbearers.

Pastor Robert Staten will officiate, with Becky Whaley delivering the eulogy and Tim Howard contributing remarks, along with a poem.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cisco School Fund (in care of Rebecca Whaley, P.O. Box 24, Cisco GA 30708).
