MRS. CHAMPION DIED IN NIGHT WAS LONG ILL
Widow of William CHAMPION, well known Civil War veteran and long a resident of Belvidere expires at the home of her daughter.
Mrs. Ellen CHAMPION, widow of the late William CHAMPION, and for many yeas a resident of Belvidere, died at midnight at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. SEVERNS, in Chicago, after a long illness. Mrs. SEVERNS is a daughter, and the only child.
Mrs. CHAMPION was 88 years old and previous to removal to Chicago a few years ago, had been a Belvidere resident for a great many years. When Mr. SEVERNS was placed in charge of the Chicago offices of the National Sewing Machine company, she accompanied Mr. and Mrs. SEVERNS there to make her home.
Her husband, who died some years ago, was a well-known veteran of the Civil War.
She will be brought to Belvidere for burial and funeral services will be held at the Witbeck & Johnson funeral home on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Re. H. C. Brown, pastor of the Methodist church, of which she was a member when she lived in Belvidere, will officiate. The remains are being brought here today by Witbeck & Johnson.

Buried Friday in Belvidere Cemetery
Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon at the Witbeck & Johnson funeral home for Mrs. Ellen CHAMPION, a former resident of Belvidere for many years whose remains were brought here from Chicago for interment by the side of her husband, the late William CHAMPION, a veteran of the Civil war who died here some years ago.
Friends gathered at the chapel to pay their last respects to the deceased. A great many flowers testified of love and esteem. The funeral address was made by Rev. Harry C. Brown, pastor of the Belvidere Methodist church, who spoke words of comfort to those left to mourn, choosing as his text, Zech. 14-7.
Burial was in Belvidere cemetery, the bearers being Frank MILLER, George AMES, Roy REED, Elizabeth SHANNON, John INMAN and Fred CONKLIN.
