Sophia Annette Douglas
BRANDON — Sophia Annette Douglas, 81, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Center in Burlington. She was born in Proctor on Oct. 2, 1926, the daughter of George and Mary (Petrulenecz) Zsido.
She received her education in local Proctor schools. On Dec. 28, 1946, she married Dan Chester Douglas in Proctor. They made their home in Brandon. She worked for several years as an aide at Brandon Training School and later for more than 12 years in The Sheltered Workshop.
She was a member of the Brandon American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 55. According to family she was an avid bingo player who enjoyed her many bingo friends. She was a communicant at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brandon.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Sharon Knapp of Forest Dale, and Donna Ellefson and her husband Jim of Pine Island, Minn.; four sons, Dan (Skip) Douglas Jr. and his wife Judy of Brandon, George Douglas and his wife Jenny of Brandon, Gary Douglas and his wife Patty of Pine Island, Minn., and Todd Douglas and his wife Diane of Sudbury; an adopted son Bruce Bushey of Burlington; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, George Zsido of Rutland; a sister, Helen Ball of Torrance, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Fields and Anna Bourn; three brothers, Mike Zsido, John Zsido and Charles Zsido; and her son-in-law, Alan Knapp Sr.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 16, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brandon. The Rev. Albert "Skip" Baltz, pastor, was the celebrant. A private graveside committal service and burial followed in the family lot at St. Mary's Cemetery.
