Mrs. Bernard was a native of Stargard, Germany, and a daughter of the late Heinz and Helen Luck Doster.
She was a retired office manager with BASF.
She spent most of her life in Germany with her husband and son.
She enjoyed traveling, and after her husband retired from the United States Department of Defense, moved with her family to the United States, where she spent the remainder of her life.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Dr. Gerald Bernard, Executive Director of the Charles Lea Center in Spartanburg, and his wife, Wendy, of Inman. She is also survived by her granddaughters: Hannah and Ellie Bernard, who were her delight.
The family will meet friends on Thursday, February 6, 2014, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. in the Funeral Chapel, officiated by the Rev. David Nichols.
