Lucretia M. Dorr, 91, died peacefully, Sunday, August 20, 2006 at Knox Center for Long Term Care.
Born in Sullivan, March 14, 1915, she was the daughter of Everett L. and Lenora M. Wakefield Crocker. Following her father's death when she was three years old, Lucretia was raised by her mother and her step-father Earl Strout. She was educated in Milbridge Schools.
After high school Mrs. Dorr married Warren K. Dorr in Milbridge in 1931. The couple resided there and in Harrington; moving to Scarborough during World War II while her husband was employed with the South Portland Shipyard. Following the war they moved to Rockland where they have resided until Mr. Dorr's death in 1995. In 1959 they began spending winters in Florida, a tradition they continued for many years.
Mrs. Dorr enjoyed sewing and crafts. She was also an avid collector of miniature pitchers, of which she had over one thousand.
A member of Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church since 1948, she was active on the Missions Board, serving as chairwoman for many years. She was also a Sunday school teacher and taught Bible classes out of her home.
Mrs. Dorr was predeceased by her husband, and five grandchildren. She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Warren and Barbara Dorr of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Clayton and Janice Dorr of Thomaston, Alonzo and Judy Dorr of Warren; three daughters and their husbands, Marie and Ronald Thurston of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Beverly & Frank Crain of Coral Springs, Florida, Rebecca and Bruce Gamage of Rockland; and 113 combined grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Dorr leaves the legacy of 119 in her immediate family.
Reverend Branan Becknell officiated.
Interment will be private.
