Alice M. Dorr was born June 12, 1920, in West Jefferson, Ohio and died on January 5, 2010, in her daughter Susan's home in Prescott Valley, Arizona with Susan, her loving child, at her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, her one true love, John H. Dorr of Columbus, Ohio. Sons Jeffrey and John were blessed to be able to speak with their Mom the day before to tell her how much they loved her. Alice was the daughter of Walter and Marie Harper. She is survived by daughter, Susan (Pete) Lyvers of Prescott Valley; and sons, Jeffrey (Lynn) Dorr of Upper Arlington, Ohio and John (Linda) Dorr of Laguna Beach, California; sisters, Patricia, Rita and Nancy; and brother, Joseph; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers William and "Bud" Walter. Alice and John were married in 1942 but had a short honeymoon as WWII intervened and John shipped out to North Africa and France. Alice kept the home fires burning, with Johnny being born before Big John returned. Alice and John raised their children in Columbus, instilling in them solid values that have guided them since childhood. Alice volunteered much of her time to Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts to make sure her kids had a fun and learning experience. Alice eventually rose to be a Vice President of the Girl Scouts' Seal of Ohio Council. Upon John's retirement, Alice and John lived the dream. They bought a motor home and traveled from coast to coast, eventually putting down roots in Arizona. They were soon followed West by daughter, Susie (Arizona) and son, John (California). Alice and John loved their time in Arizona with year round gardening, golf and back country exploring. When the summer got hot, they had a second home in the Arizona mountains where the trees grow tall and the streams run clear. Mom, we deeply will miss you but take solace in the knowledge you and Dad are together again. We will be eternally grateful for all you gave us. We love you with all our hearts and know your spirit lives on in us.
