Mr. Bernard Joseph (Kokey) Doris, a native Augustan of Milledge Road, died May 15, 2001.
Private interment on the Doris family plot at Magnolia Cemetery will follow at a later date.
Mr. Doris, age 90, was the son of the late Anna O'Callaghan Doris and the late Thomas Patrick Doris. Mr. Doris, plus his father and brother, the late Edward John Doris, founded Doris Jewelers in 1940. The firm is now known as Doris Diamonds and is run by third generation family.
Mr. Doris attended Notre Dame and graduated from Belmont Abbey College, Belmont, N.C. where he served on the Board of Trustees in later years. Mr. Doris was a former fourth degree member of the Patrick Walsh Council #677 of the Knights of Columbus. In 1952 he was Grand Knight of this council.
Mr. Doris was a member of the Church of the Most Holy Trinity, the Augusta Country Club, a former member of the Lions Club of Augusta and a former member of the Augusta Club, Yemassee, S.C. Mr. Doris was a devoted husband and father. He was an avid golfer, tennis player and fisherman.
