Alvin Bernard Donaldson, 59, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, in Cottondale, Fla. Alvin was born in Sopchoppy, Fla., and lived in Tallahassee for many years. Hewas a retired U.S. Marine Corps sergeant who served more than 20 years and also retired as assistant business manager at Federal Correction Institute. The service will be at noon EDT Saturday, Aug. 23, at Mount Trial Primitive Baptist Church in Sopchoppy, with burial and military honors at Buckhorn Cemetery. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT Friday, Aug. 22, at Strong & Jones Funeral Home (850-224-2139) in Tallahassee and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service. Alvin loved people and enjoyed cooking and grilling for relatives and friends. He was not a stranger to anyone. He was always happy and loved to help people. He was a man of integrity and an exceptional scholar who was trustworthy, dedicated and committed to his profession. Survivors include his precious devoted mother, Angeline Donaldson of Sopchoppy, Fla.; his beloved fiancee, Evelyn Bellamy of Cottondale, Fla.; two children, Dorothy Donaldson of Boston, Mass., and Logan Donaldson of San Francisco, Calif.; two aunts, Rosa Mae Rosier and Annie Lee Carter of Tallahassee; sisters-in-law, Joyce Donaldson Roberts, Marie Donaldson and Catherine Donaldson; 11 nieces and nephews, Pamela Donaldson and Joy Donaldson of Tallahassee, Kenneth Donaldson (ReShanda) of Crawfordville, Monique Donaldson, Mia Donaldson and Gregory Donaldson of Madison, Fla., Catrina Donaldson, Tony, Pachon, Patrick and Charon Donaldson, all of Atlanta, Ga.; 26 great-grandnieces and -grandnephews; and a host of cousins and sorrowing friends.
