Death of John Donahue.
John Donahue of Hyattville died Wednesday afternoon at the Basin hospital after a lingering illness. Several years ago Mr. Donahue fell from a horse and from this fall kidney trouble resulted which has been gradually getting worse. Not long ago he fell from a load of hay and it is thought that fall brought on the fatal illness. Jack, as he was familiarly known to practically every resident of the Basin country, was a pioneer of Wyoming and was a friend to everyone. He was born in Iowa in 1849, being 63 years of age at the time of his death. His parents moved to Kansas when he was nine years of age and when he was 15 he started in life for himself, going to Dakota where he became post rider in the service of the United States government. From Dakota he went to Texas and assisted in driving seven different herds of cattle from Texas north. He came to Wyoming in 1877. Until 1893 he was engaged in the range cattle business, when he was married to Miss Callie Hatten of Hyattville, in which town he then settled and where he has since resided. He was one of the early deputy sheriff [sic] of Johnson County and during the stirring times of those early days such a position required a great deal of bravery. During his long residence in the Basin he has made hundreds of warm friends who have heard with profound sorrow of his demise and who will offer sincere condolence to the bereaved widow. Mr. Donahue had no known relatives now living and he is survived only by his widow, no children having been born of their union.
The funeral was held in Hyattville at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon under the auspices of the M.W.A. of which order deceased was a member. Interment was made in the Hyattville cemetery.
