"Catharine M. Gould Donahue, 87, the mother of five and foster mother of 23, died Dec. 30 at Holy Redeemer Hospital. She was a resident of Horsham for 65 years. Mrs. Donahue cared for boys from broken homes in her family's seven-bedroom country home during the 1930s and '40s. She raised about half of the boys from the age of 3 through 16, according to her daughter, Veronica G. Price of Horsham. Most of the boys were from the Philadelphia area, although some were from upstate Pennsylvania. The foster children came to Mrs. Donahue through the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Catholic Children's Bureau, now the Catholic Social Service's Child Care Department. "During the time I was growing up, we had 10 of the boys living with us. They all said they had plenty to eat, a roof over their heads and a lot of love," Price said. "Even to the day she died, she was a devoted mother." Mrs. Donahue's foster children attended St. Joseph's Elementary School in Warrington. Her five children attended St. David's Elementary School in Willow Grove. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Horsham. Born in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, she was the wife of the late Patrick A. Donahue. She is survived by another daughter, Magdalene M. Kenney; three sons, Joseph P., William D. and Anthony J.; a sister; 23 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was said Jan. 3 at St. Catherine of Siena. Interment was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham."
