SHIRLEY D. DOMINGUEZ, ACTIVE IN COMMUNITY, RESIDENT FOR 14 YEARS
Shirley D. Dominguez, who was active in several community organizations, died Monday night in Norwalk Hospital. She was 56 years old and the wife of George S. Dominguez of Cavalry Hill Road. Mrs. Dominguez was born in New York City, the daughter of Jean Byram Drewry, of Richmond, Va., and the late Earl Drewry.
A Wilton resident for 14 years, Mrs. Dominguez was a member of Tres Dias, Daughters of the American Revolution, Zion's Hill United Methodist Church and its Women's Club, the Wilton Women's Club, and the Villagers Club.
She served as a publicist for various town organizations and her work for the DAR won an award for the chapter last year.
She is also survived by a son and daughter, and a sister, Mrs. Earlita L. Dunnavant of Richmond, Va.
Services will take place at 10 a.m., Thursday, in Zion's Hill United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk, Wednesday from 3 to 5, and 7 to 9 p.m.
Contributions may be made to Zion's Hill United Methodist Church, 470 Danbury road, Wilton, 06897 or to the Oncology Department of the Norwalk Hospital, Stevens Street, Norwalk, 06850.

Personal note: Shirley was my good friend who I continue to fondly remember these years since her death much too soon. At her funeral, her friends spoke about how she encouraged leadership of the women's group in our church by suggesting we do what the geese do when they fly -- when the head goose tires of leading the V formation, he falls back and another takes his place. At Shirley's burial, at the cemetery, just as the prayer ended a flock of geese flew by low just above us. It was a very emotional and memorable moment I have never forgotten.
