Joseph L. Doherty
BILLERICA - Joseph L. Doherty, 94, a 52-year Billerica resident who was a retired letter carrier and a veteran of World War II, died Tuesday, Aug.19, at Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell. He was the husband of the late Alice J. (McGinn) Doherty and the late Rose J. (Poli) Doherty.
He was born in Boston on Oct. 3, 1908, son of Joseph L. and Margaret J. (Hales) Doherty. Mr. Doherty served in Navy during World War II.
Mr. Doherty worked as a letter carrier for U.S. Postal Services in Medford for 30 years and was a member of National Association of the Letter Carriers.
He was also a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Billerica
He is survived by three daughters, Mary Hickey of Springfield, Louise Park of Andover and Lorraine Ward of Westford; his two sons, Joseph L. Doherty Jr., residing in Florida and Paul Doherty of Chelmsford; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was also the father of the late Thomas Doherty.
