Lucille Befort, 92, Hays, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at St. John's of Hays. She was born Oct. 28, 1916, in Hays to Joseph and Agnes (Staab) Doerfler. She married Al Bieker on Sept. 30, 1935. He preceded her in death June 30, 1969. She later married Bill Befort on May 29, 1975. He preceded her in death June 8, 2006.

She and her first husband, Al Bieker built and operated Al's Chickenette in Hays until their retirement in 1969. Prior to owning the Chickenette, she worked at Boeing and Beechcraft Aircraft Plants in Wichita during World War II.

She was chairwoman of the noodle-making project for 24 years, which was a fundraiser for the Hays Medical Center Auxiliary and St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays, Daughters of Isabella and Hays Medical Center Auxiliary.

Survivors include two step-sons, Don Befort, Hays, and Bill Befort Jr., West Palm Beach, Fla.; three step-daughters, Sister Jean Befort, Concordia, Teresa Gottschalk, Hays, and Margaret Ann Hines, Arvada, Colo.; three brothers, Wif Doerfler, Wooster, Ohio, Marvin "Mo" Doerfler, Trenton, Mich., and Harold Doerfler, Hutchinson.; five sisters, Edna Brown, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Sister Rachel Doerfler, CSA, Phoenix, Milly Fitzgerald, Florissant. Mo., and Kathy Rohr and Annette Seib, both of Hays; and 14 step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; a brother, Alfred Doerfler; and a sister, Isabelle Gabel.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, both at Brock's North Hill Chapel Funeral Home, 2509 Vine, Hays.

A sisters of St. Agnes prayer service will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by a vigil at 6:30 p.m., both at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested towards the St. Joseph's Parish Center Elevator Project.
