HAYS – Anne E. Doerfler, 82, of Hays, died March 27 at St. John's of Victoria Health Center in Victoria. She was born Nov. 29, 1927, at Ellis, to Rudolph and Johanna (Augustine) Gnad. She married William Doerfler and he preceded her in death. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for more than 27 years, retiring in 1984.
Mrs. Doerfler was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, VFW Auxiliary, Perpetual Adorers and the SBC Telephone Pioneers.
Survivors include her sisters, Johanna Gnad of Ellis and Mary Ann Kepka of Great Bend; and 27 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Ralph and Clarence Gnad, and two sisters, Theresa Reitmeyer and Dorothy Gnad.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Hays. There will be a Perpetual Adorers rosary at 4:30 p.m., a VFW Auxiliary service at 5 p.m., a Daughter of Isabella rosary at 5:30 p.m. ;and a parish vigil service at 6 p.m. all on Monday at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Memorials have been established with the Immaculate Heart of Mary Forward in Faith Fund or to the Mary Elizabeth Maternity Home in her name and memory. Funeral arrangements provided by
