Irene Day Bailey, of Oak Ridge, wife of Lonnie L. Bailey, mother of Jeffrey L. Day and step-mother of Dwight Bailey, passed away at home on October 13, 2011, following a three year illness. A member of Central Baptist Church of Oak Ridge, Mrs. Bailey retired in 1994 from the U.S.D.O.E. technical information center after a career as an information specialist. She was author of a technical document index for D.O.E.

Mrs. Bailey took special joy in her step-grandchildren; she was a woman of frank conviction. She was the daughter of Edgar H. and Gertrude Dodson of Montgomery, Alabama. She was reared in the depression and moved to Oak Ridge in 1945. She was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School.

The family will receive friends at Central Baptist Church on Sunday, October 16, 2011 from 1 2:15 PM, with the funeral service following at 2:15 PM, Rev. Glenn Ellis officiating. A graveside service will be Sunday, 3:30 PM at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include:
Husband, Lonnie L. Bailey;
Sister-in-law, Lelia G. Day, Kingston;
Son, Jeffrey L. Day;
Step-son, Dwight Bailey and wife, Fern;
6 step-grandchildren;
6 step=great-grandchildren;
Numerous nieces and nephews in Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, and Mississippi.

Irene was preceded in death by:
Husband, Fred Elbert Day;
Son, John Frederick Day;
Parents, Edgar & Gertrude Dodson;
Step-children, Constance B. Wilson and Willis Bailey;
Brothers and sisters, Effie, Lena, Lawrence, Reuben, Allen, William, & Felder.

The family expresses profound gratitude to doctor W. Reid Bell, III, MD., Ms. Sharon Hill, and the staff of Senior Citizens Home Advisory Services, and the compassionate staff of Covenant Home Hospice Care.
