WALTER DODSON

ALTON — Walter Edward Dodson, 89, left this earth to go to our Heavenly Father at 11:55 a,m. Sunday, May 29, 2016 atRosewood Care Center in Alton with his significant other and caregiver, Rochelle J. Kress at his side. Walter had suffered a long illness since March 2015. He was formerly of St. Louis, Missouri.

He was born on September 21, 1926, in Hartville, Missouri, the son of the late Uriah F. and Martha A. (Rudnick) Dodson.

Walter served his country in World War II in the Army as a radio-Morse Code operator. He attended Washington University in St. Louis, and an Art Institue in Chicago. He was employed as an interior designer at Lammert Furniture Company in St. Louis, retiring in 1993. Walter loved life and had a zest for living. He was always positive even up to his death. He loved the great outdoors, nature and his country. He also enjoyed hiking and attending flea markets. He was an original "Mr.Tinker," always fixing things. He enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals and attending horse shows and The Muny Opera.

He is survived by his significant other, Rochelle J. Kress of Alton, Illinois, and a brother, Ciesart of Lenexa, Kansas, and several nieces and nephews, all in Missouri and Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, two brothers, Albert and Oscar Esa, and a sister, Elsie Esa.

A private funeral service will be held at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, Illinois. Pastor John Shank of Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville will officiate.

Private graveside service will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, Illinois.

Memorials may be directed to the Siteman Cancer Center in Care of the funeral home.
