Bertha Alice Buchanan Dodge passed away Oct. 8, 1931, in Oelwein, Iowa, with services conducted by Rev. J. B. Ackman at the Grace Methodist Episcopal Church in Oelwein. Burial is at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Bertha was born to Thomas J. Buchanan and Alice Amanda Brownell on Dec. 7, 1882, in Logan, Iowa, the second of four children: Jennie (Mrs. Jerome B. Howe), Thomas Charles, and Vernon Hylton, both brothers preceding her in death. She is survived by her husband, William, daughter Dorothy, and son, Donald.
Having lost both her parents before the age of 20, Bertha lived for a time with family in Rockford, Illinois, before returning to be with family in West Union and Oneida. Here she met and married William J. Dodge on April 17, 1905.
Bertha was an esteemed and active member of the Methodist Episcopal church as well as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, in which she held various offices.
Her death is untimely but she leaves a legacy that is surcharged with beautiful memories and beautiful associations - a life well spent.
