Son of Moses C. and Lydia (Sabin) Dodge.
Horatio C. Dodge was also known as Henry H. Dodge in some census and vital records documents.
On 17 Feb 1846 his mother, Lydia Sabin, died at Southbridge, Massachusetts, at age 19, apparently as a result of his birth. His widowed father, Moses C. Dodge, remarried to Sabrina Welch.
On 11 Mar 1862 Horatio mustered into service with the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, being credited to the quota of Oxford, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He was 16 years, 1 month and 26 days old.
He was declared missing in action on 30 Jun 1862 at Nelson's Farm, Virginia.
On 11 Apr 1863 in "The Webster Times," Horatio C. Dodge was included in the published list of Oxford volunteers
On 27 Jul 1864, Horatio was transferred to the 20th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, according to the 1870 Adjutant General's roster.
On 25 Aug 1866 Henry, 20, married Sarah L. Martin, 19, daughter of Luther P. and Angelina (Bates) Martin, at Oxford, Worcester County, Massachusetts.
On 25 Sep 1877 Sarah L. (Martin) Dodge, his wife, died at Worcester, Massachusetts, at age 30. They had no known children.
In 1879 Horatio was living in "County House," according to a report on 5 Jul 1879 in the "Webster Times," about a regimental reunion. This is believed to be a reference to the state prison. There are indications that he was frequently in trouble with the law during the post-war years.
He died on 12 Jan 1882 at Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He was 35 years, 11 months and 30 days old.
