Mr. Dobbs was born, Dec. 5, 1921, in Nauvoo, AL, a son of Jesse Thomas Dobbs and Marie Cheatham Dobbs.

He retired after 21 years as a Navy Chief, served in WWII and retired with 25 years at the Polaris Missile Base. He was a member of American Legion Post 166 and VFW Post 3433.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Dobbs of Summerville; three sons, Jesse J. Dobbs, Jr., (Polly) of Birmingham, AL, Raymond Dobbs (Laurie) of Goose Creek and Thomas E. Dobbs (Debbie) of Summerville; one daughter, Sandra Bowers of Summerville; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Nell Dobbs.
